When you are fighting depression in the middle of a cold winter month, call and talk to old friends that you haven’t seen in months. Don’t hang up the phone until you make a date to stop and see your long lost friend. You will be amazed at how much this is going to change how you feel about life and chase the blues away.

Unfortunately these tips only work for those of you who are feeling down. Depression is not the same at all. Sorry to sound pedantic but the difference is huge and it would be better to distinguish between the two.
dealing with depression naturally
Comments by: Kristen Ann from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania      Feb 11, 2007
I have experienced depression recently with the passing of my beloved mother. Losing someone that was such an important part of your life brings upon a sense of grief and depression that is unbearable at times. I have learned through personal experience that exercise and the love of children and animals can do a world of difference. Keeping youself busy and not giving into the solemn states that depression can bring about is very effective. Hope this advice can help someone in need when feeling lonely or helpless.

For me, there are reasons why I am depressed, and those underlying reasons must be addressed, and doing the things mentioned in the article may take your mind off your troubles for brief periods of time, but will not solve the underlying problems. And, worse yet, as Helen stated, if you are depressed with NO underlying reason, then you must get to a doctor to be diagnosed properly and treated accordingly. So my advice is to actually DEAL with it, and not try to distract yourself with the temporary things suggested by this article. If you're depressed, find out why!!!!!!!!!!!
The Blues Vs Mental illness
Comments by: Helen from Australia      Aug 05, 2006
I find some of the information given in this tip dangerous. If you
are suffering from a real mental illness known as 'clinical
depression', you can sing as many songs as you like or fly as
many kites as you like and it's not going to make any difference.
We all suffer 'the blues' from time to time when sad things
happen in our lives. However, a distinction between this and
suffering from a mental illness MUST be made. I have suffered
from CLINICAL DEPRESSION for over 17 years and it is a chronic
and sometimes fatal illness (due to suicide). If you feel sad for
an extended period and for no real reason this is a major sign
you don't have 'the blues' but are suffering from a diagnosable
mental illness which requires immediate medical treatment.
Please do not follow these silly little tips like having a bath or
reading a book to cure yourself. GET TO A DOCTOR
IMMEDIATELY.
Amazing!
