Organize your Kitchen - Continued

Continued from Organize your Kitchen

Assign a Home for Everything.

Reserve the taller cabinets for cereal or oversized boxes.  Reserve shallow drawers for flatware, spices, wraps and bags.  Use deep drawers for bulky appliance accessories, pots and pans, or large serving dishes.  In households with children, use safety latches for drawers with breakables, or knives, or chemicals.

Use the upper cabinets for lighter weight items and the lower for the more bulky and heavy items.  Instead of placing tall glasses in the back of the cabinet and shorter ones in the front, try placing different heights in columns from front to back of the cabinet.  That way you will have front row access to each of the sizes you own.

Keep Your Routine.

The key to keeping your kitchen organized is to put things away in the same place all the time, preferably as you work.  Get into the habit of cleaning the kitchen up after meals.  Do not leave the dishes stacked up on the counter until morning.  Getting up to a clean kitchen is a gift you will appreciate.

Doing the dishes can be boring, so reward yourself while you are washing them.  Use this time to call your friends, or talk to your children or spouse.  It will give you something to look forward to.  Give your kitchen a regular tune up twice a year to go through your cabinets and weed out anything that does not belong.
