Grilling Out With Your Family - Continued

Continued from Grilling Out With Your Family

Be sure to cook all foods thoroughly.  Just because the outside of the meat browns and looks done doesn’t mean that the middle is done.  Using a thermometer during grilling will take the guest work out of doneness.  Temperatures to look for are as follows:

  • Chicken should reach 180 degrees F.
  • Hamburgers should reach 160 degrees F
  • Steaks, veal, lamb, roasts and chops should reach 160 degrees F
  • All types of pork should reach at least 160 degrees F.

Keep all meats hot until ready to serve.  Keep the meats hot by placing the meats to the side of the grill and not directly over the hot coals.  When removing the cooked meat from the grill use a clean platter and utensils to serve them on.

Grill your entire meal on the grill by placing your meat and vegetables in a sheet of heavy aluminum foil made into a pouch.  Do individual ouches for each member of your family.  Since all of your dinner items are in this ouch you simply open, eat and toss out which makes preparation and clean up simple and mess free.

Keep in mind many items can be cooked right on the grill so do your best to stay out of the kitchen you wouldn’t want to be running back and forth between to the kitchen and the outdoor grill.  Take advantage of the nice weather and fresh air by grilling everyday the creations you can make on the grill are endless and kids seem to eat so much more when it’s cooked on the grill.  So both you and your children benefit by cooking out, you get a clean kitchen and your children get grilled favorites.
