Some problems and complications involved in an ear infection:

  • Dizziness and imbalance may be the cause of an inner ear infection.

  • An infection of the skull and behind the ear may develop.
  • Scarring of the eardrum.
  • May experience the loss of feeling or movement in the face.
  • Permanent hearing loss.

Watch for the following changes in your child.  A child may not have any other symptoms so watch for the following.

  • If your child seems to be talking more loudly or softly than usual.
  • If your child has been saying “huh?” or “What?” more than usual.
  • Not responding to sounds.
  • In a noisy room the child may not understand language.
  • Your child has been watching television or radio turned up louder than usual.

It is very normal for children to have several ear infections at a very young age.  Most ear infections are minor.  Most clear up with out any lasting problems.  Just keep in mind the symptoms and some of the ways to prevent it from happening again.
