Do you have empty unwanted milk jugs lying around your house and you wander ‘what can I do with these”? They take up too much room in the garbage and if you are like many people, you use a lot of milk in month. Well I think I have a few neat ideas of what you can do with them. I have tried of few of these and some are ideas that other people have given to me.
One idea is to recycle them of course. Just make sure that you clean them out well and some recycling centers want you to remove the lid. This is a good way just to get them out of your way and help the environment as well. You could also use them for many uses in the garage. The work good for transporting the old used oil from your cars or tractors to the places that takes the oil to dispose of it. You can also use milk jugs in the garage for storing bolts and screws, just cut off the top and put them on shelves.
Another easy project is to turn a milk jug into a funnel. Just cut the bottom off of the jug and you’ve made an instant funnel. I’m sure that your husbands can find a use for them in the garage.
Now for in the house, you can use them as storage containers for anything from sugar or coffee to rice and other small grains that you need to store. This will keep them fresh and it will make it a little easier to measuring when you pour them out. This is sometimes better than messy plastic bags. I have seen someone even use old jugs as a toilet brush holder. Just cut a hole in the top corner on the other side of the handle and there you go. And you can replace them when they get soiled without spending money on new toilet brush holders.
You can also use plastic jugs for to make powdered drinks or mix up gravies. Just put in your ingredients and make sure the lid is on tight and shake away. Keep a few around and use them and throw them away if you don’t want to clean them up. My dad uses old jugs as a kitty litter scoop. Cut away the bottom and part of the handle and put the top back on and use it till is gets too dirty and replace it just as easy the next time.
You can also cut away most of the top of the jug and use them for little containers for candy, or fruit, or put them in you refrigerator to keep things from rolling around.
Use your old milk jugs outside too. Cut the tops off the jugs and plant your seedlings in them to get them started or you can use them as flowerpot liners and put the dirt and flowers in them to keep the pots from getting messy. You can also make a bird feeder out of them. Cut holes in both sides of the jugs and fill up with birdseed and hang it from your tree.
