If you are like me, then your Grandmother is one of the most important people in your life. Grandmother’s or grandma’s or nanny’s, whatever you may call your grandmother are very special people, but sometimes we forget to show them how much they mean to us. There are some very small and easy but special ways to let them know we care. It is easy to get caught up in everyday things and forget to check up on your grandparents. Sometimes they feel alone and need someone to talk to, or even someone to help them out every once in a while.
If your Grandma likes to get out of the house, you can pick a day a spend it with her helping her do her errands. They would sure appreciate the help and having someone to do them with. Take her to do her shopping whether it is grocery or maybe out to her favorite store. Offer to take your Grandma to her doctor’s appointment, that way she doesn’t have to go alone and having you there to support her would make her feel a lot better, or you could offer to take her to church on Sundays. Another activity for you both to do together is to make a flower garden. Most Grandma’s like flowers and it would mean more to her to have you there helping her plant them. Take your Grandma for a walk or if that isn’t possible for her, take her out for an ice cream cone. Take her for a car ride on old back road on a nice summer day. Getting out of the house might be something that she looks forward to and it won’t matter where you go, just so you are with her.
If your Grandmother would rather stay inside, there are plenty of things you could do with her. You could get into a game of cards or play a board game with her. Rent an old movie or just pick a new one on TV and make some popcorn and watch them with her. Sometimes it is nice to just sit with each other and talk. Get out some old pictures of the family and reminisce with you Grandma about the old days. I’m sure it would be good for both of you to talk about old memories make some new ones. Put a puzzle together or work on a crossword puzzle together.
