Refreshing the House! Redecorating with Little Cash

Wondering around the house, I realized I have not done anything nice for my house in a long time. It all pretty much looks the same as what it did five years ago; I have not even bought a new picture for the walls! I decided it was time to spruce up the house, to make everyone in the house feel good about where we live and what we see day in and day out.

After all, of these changes, I then wanted to share with you a few ideas about how to spruce up the house even if you have just a few dollars. You can make one project a month a task that you want to do, and then you constantly feel good about the changes in the house, or you can tackle it all at one time if you like.

Something that I very rarely do is dusting my house. It does not cost a lot, it is just one of those things that I do not like to do much. Therefore, in order to start me out on my sprucing up the house, I decided once again not to dust or wash the walls, but to paint the walls and ceilings. I love that fresh paint smell, and the walls are clean as new at that time.

Because the walls were already painted before, you can cut back on the costs of repainting by not priming the walls. If you are using a similar color or if you started with a very light color, you may not need to prime either, but you can see this as you start painting in the house. If you are on very limited funds, try painting just one room a week or every few weeks, and before you know it your house looks great!

Another quick way you can spruce up your home is to rent a rug scrubber for the day. This should be a minimal cost of twenty to thirty dollars. If you are lucky perhaps, you can borrow one from someone you know to keep the cost down even more. Scrub all the rugs through your home.

Sure, this can take all day but before you know it your house, is spot free and it is going to smell good at the same time. Carpets hold a lot of smells in a home. Sprucing up your home does make you feel good when you know it is a good deep clean!

My mother was laughing at one thing that I did, but I could not resist. I took all the pictures off the wall that were of the family. I changed all the large photos that were in the frames, but instead, I made mini collages in each frame, a mixture of pictures of the family in each frame.

While this looks great on a solid background, it can make that busy wallpaper look bad if you are not careful. Besides having new pictures on the wall, that don’t cost you a thing, your new picture collages are going to be a great conversation starter for all those people who come into your home to visit.

A quick and easy way to make your rooms feel a little more comfy and new at the same time is to throw a few new rugs down in the kitchen and in the bathroom. If you like to make changes in the house, to spruce up the house and keep it fresh looking, keep a few different sets of bathroom and kitchen rugs on hands so you can change them with the season. Your home will always feel different and make you feel better because you have been able to change ‘something’ without costing you lots of money.
