When you are preparing for a family reunion, you should first try and get together with all the members that are planning the reunion in a centrally located place. It makes things easier if you can all sit down and plan the reunion together. You should plan at least six to twelve months ahead of time so that everyone can make the proper travel arrangements and time off work or school.
First you need to pick a location. It should be in a location that is easiest for everyone to get to. You also need to decide if you are going to have it outside, like a picnic or at an amusement park, or maybe you want to have it at a restaurant or rent a hall.
If you decide to go this way, you should try and make the reservations as soon as possible because these places can book up fast.
If you are having it at a park or in hall or even maybe at someone’s house, you will need to decide what kind of food to make or bring. It is probably better to give everyone a choice of what they want to bring and keep a list. That way no one is bring the same items and it lessens the chance of forgetting something.
If you have it outside at a park, don’t forget to assign someone to bring plates and silverware and napkins and cups. These are important things that you will need to have. Find out if there is use of a grill or cooking equipment or outlets so that you can make proper arrangements.
Make sure that there is some kind of entertainment or activity at the reunion for everyone. For kids, plan some games or activities to keep them busy. For the adults, plan something that would be fun and that you could all do together. Lots of families play some bingo or horseshoes to pass the time.
You could have each family member bring some little dollar gifts, and use them as the prizes for bingo. This might even get the younger crowd in on the action. Make sure that someone also brings a first aide kit or emergency items, just in case.
