Keeping Your White Clothes Bright & White

Trying to keep your white clothes and towels white and bright like the day you bought them can be a struggle.  With different elements working against you this could be an impossible task.

For starters never wash any items with color with your white clothing.  Even the slightest bit of color could bleed over your whites leaving them gray, pink or just having a dull look about them.

Stained whites may need a little more treatment then just a plain washing.  You may need to pre-treat the item first then add to your wash.  Most people think that washing your clothes in the hottest water possible will clean them the best but if the items have some stains that haven’t been pre-treated than the hot water just might set the stains in with little chance of removal.

Hard water can be very challenging on your laundry.  If your water is hard and no water softener is installed than the use of more laundry detergent may be necessary.  If your not really sure if your water is hard than try adding a small drop of dish detergent to a cup of water and shake do the same to a cup of bottled water.  Does both cups soap up the same amount or does your suds seem to be less in your water compared to the bottled water.

Hard water will leave your clothes dingy and gray.  The detergent has a harder time dissolving and rinsing from your clothes not matter the color.  By adding vinegar to the rinse water this will dissolve residue left behind that your water didn’t dissolve.

After washing your clothes hang your clothes out to dry in the sun.  The natural sunlight has a way of bringing out the bright color in your clothes.

Another way of getting your white clothes and towels looking so good is with the use of bleach.  Bleach is a good whitening detergent but the use of too much can weaken the material in your clothing and towels leaving them to fall into holes at a later date.

If a detergent is what you’re looking for why not try oxi-clean.  Many products such as carpet cleaners; detergents and other fabric cleaners seem to be adding oxi-clean to their products.  Warm water activates the oxygen inside this product, which leaves your clothes clean and white.
