It’s almost that time of year, summer. The weather is changing and before we know it the temperature will be rising and yes, that means the bees, hornets and yellow jackets will be out in full force. For years my family had a massive problem with all kinds of bees. We were unable to set out on our patio due to the invasion of these pests. In the evening as the sun went done and the temperature cooled off we were once again able to enjoy the outdoors (but we were being robbed of the summer sun).
We tried various bee sprays, knocked down nests, sprayed with water, you name it we tried it. Our children’s toys, if left outdoors, would be full of nests in a day or two. The same was true for the patio furniture, barbecue grill, picnic table and the children’s swing set. This was a very frustrating and major problem.
Many people had suggestions on various bee sprays, bee traps and we even plugged a pest control sound device that was suppose to keep pest away, instead it seemed to attract even more unwanted pests.
We eventually did try a suggestion that worked great. This sounds a little weird and I was even very skeptical at first but I figured what did I have to lose just a few dollars. It was suggested that we buy toilet bowl cleaners (the kind that hang on the rim of your toiler bowl). I told you it sounds ridiculous but trust me it does work. So go to your local dollar store and pick up a supply of these toilet cleaners and then place them any way you have unwanted bees, hornets, wasp and yellow jackets. It is so unreal but the scent of these toilet bowl cleaner keep the bees away. We’ve place them under our picnic table, under the barbecue grill, on the back of the patio furniture, the children’s swing set and one or two around the deck railing. These toilet cleaners are reasonably cheap, I usually get two for a dollar and they seem to last a few weeks. Instead of removing the wrapper just open it slightly as it is the scent that keeps the bees away.
