Every where you look you see cars that are junked up or loaded with gaudy items that make you wander if people have forgotten what the purpose of a vehicle is – transportation.
A telephone or stereo in a vehicle is often useful, but once we start in making our car a home away from home we add a TV, an icebox, clothes hangers, makeup mirrors, cup holders, and cassette sorters. The car looks and feels like a dump. It becomes hard to operate and maintain and it is unsafe.
More than likely if you run off the road it is because you are fiddling with the stereo, trying to eat, or adjust a piece of junk. In our efforts to decorated our car and add all the features of home, we get rid of the important and necessary equipment like safety flares, flashlights, first aid kits, chains, jumper cables, and blankets and etc. The food crusted seat belts are tangled and hard to find among all the clutter.
Our visibility suffers too. There are gaudy things hanging from our mirrors, and stickers all over our windows, deodorizers hanging in our view, and teddy bears and stuffed animals in our back window. Do not forget the tissue box that is on the dash and ends up on the floor or in the vent. We need to de clutter our car.
Keep the garbage out.
Keep a garbage can in the garage or near where you keep your car. This will help keep the clutter from overtaking your car and make it easy and convenient to de junk when you get out at the end of the day. Keep some small plastic trash liners handy as bits of food and other garbage build up on a trip, put it in the bag immediately. Odors and stains in junk cars usally result from left food, not the act of eating.
Put the Good Things Back.
Make sure that you keep the necessary tools, shovels, flares, and things in a box in your trunk. Alternatively, you can roll them in a pad. This keeps the tools compact, quiet and provides a nice mat if you need to crawl under the car. One air freshener on the mirror or even better one that fits in a cup holder or in a console is fine.
Keep your Car Dust Free.
Carry a dust cloth in the glove box of your car. Your car gets dusty from highways and back roads. Once a week dusting will keep your car looking good. If you want you can keep a spray bottle with window cleaner and a cloth in the trunk for spills, mud on the lights, and other instant cleaning needs.
Keep the Gaudy Away.
Do not screw, bolt, or glue cheap accessories and gadgets all over the vehicle. Why would you want to make your car look gaudy and cheap by adding these crazy items to your car? Keep the ugly bumper stickers off your vehicle. These are obnoxious as well as a danger for the other drivers who cannot help but read them as they are driving. Add a nice pinstripe or a decal to your car. This will add style and value to your car.
