New careers and job hunting is something that should be taken very seriously when you want to change your life and do something different in your life. There are many reasons why a new job must be considered, some of which is money, time, that you need to find something closer to home, that you want to try something different in life, and just because you want to make more money. No matter what the reason is that you are looking for a new job doing it right is going to make a difference in getting a job and just going to another interview.
If you are seriously looking for a new job you will have to take your job hunt in a serious manner. You will have to plan out where you are going to start, creating a resume, a listing of your skills, practice talking about yourself, in an interview setting, and you will have to be able to come up with answers to any questions that may appear on your resume. Planning your attack on the limited job market is going to be a key in success.
While it may seem a little different, for the serious job seeker, you will need to keep a journal of everywhere you have been and who you have talked with. Suppose that you get a message on your phone from Mr. Smith with a phone number. With out a company name, you have nothing to go on when you call him back. For all you know, it could be the job that you really didn’t want, at a rate that just wasn’t enough, and then when you call him back you have a difficult conversation.
Another reason to keep a journal of where you have been and whom you have talked with is that in case you have a second interview with a different person you want to be able to reference the correct name of who you talked with in the first interview. This journal will become very helpful in this manner.
Yet another reason to keep a journal for where you have been and whom you have talked with is that you can send out letters of thank you for their interview at least once a week. This is a common practice for more professional jobs.
Looking back at your journal when you still don’t have any good job leads after a few weeks will help you realize where you need to spend more time, and what you need to spend more time doing. Perhaps you were going to an interview every day but you still didn’t send out new resumes for the jobs that were in the paper this week. Your job journal is going to help you realize what you should be focusing on and where you need to spend more time to continue a good thorough job search.
